In numerous cultures around the world bees were sacred, associated with the Divine Feminine. Archeologists have found images of bees, bee priestesses and bee goddesses dating back millennia. This came to mind in September, when at the women’s workshop I attended on sacred circlework, as a group we frequently hummed liked bees, bee images arose several times in meditation, and the flowers and bushes surrounding the retreat center teemed with bees. And the plane that three of us took to return home was delayed because a bee had flown inside! (It was safely removed.)
I wrote this poem in fun, in honor of our group, but also for all the Bee Priestesses across time and space, and for all women.
