I’m posting a little early this month to honor the winter solstice, and to send love your way during this holiday time.
The longest night of the year.
Sitting still in the darkness
what might I hear?
Do the stars warble?
Does the candle whisper a message?
Is the bonfire’s crackle and hiss a code?
Do I sense a wisp of breath from the creatures resting under the snow?
Do the seeds murmur—or groan—as they settle into their places to wait for the sun’s return?
Sitting still in the darkness
If my heart swells with wonder, will any of them hear my love?
However you celebrate at this time of year, may your days hold warmth, wonder, deep connection, tranquility, laughter, and delicious treats.
Do you honor the winter solstice? How?
Lovely post Anne. Thank you so much!!!
You’re welcome Judith! Love to you…
We are celebrating by having old friends over- they live here in FL year round and lived thru the hurricane.
Thank you Anne for the lovely pause to remember the day.
Mary
So glad Mary! Have a lovely time!
I have a daily ritual of lighting a candle at sunset and letting it burn all night on my altar turning it off at sunrise. (Don’t worry— it’s battery powered and completely safe.)
On Solstice I will fill the entire house with candles in every room following the same ritual: on at Sunset and off at Sunrise. Let there be lights everywhere I look honoring this return of the light following the longest night of the year
What a lovely ritual Laura! Creates a beautiful vision in my mind…
