I do intend in coming months to get back to telling stories and sharing reflections, but with all that’s going on this summer, I haven’t had the mindspace to write, and I imagine you don’t have time to read anyway. But I didn’t want to skip another month. So—pictures again!
(If you are reading this in an email and the format is weird, you might want to click the link in the title or at the top to look at it on my website instead.)
I love people-watching at the Minnesota State Fair. And I enjoy being surprised by the people who show up in my art. Once they emerge I can’t help feeling affection for them.
In honor of summer’s end and the state fair, the infinite variety of folks on this planet, and the joy of play, surprise and affection, I share a few people who have popped into my art. In watercolor, collage, acrylic paint or colored pencil.

Welcome to September!

Hi Anne,
What fun looking at each face and imagining their stories. You have created quite a group. Thanks for sharing.
Yes an unbelievable summer of activity!
Yes, it’s fun to think about their stories, isn’t it? Thanks Nancy!
these are amazing and beautiful in the individual and quirky ways. Did you create them after the fair from memory? Did you take pictures while there? No matter really I just love all of them. And am so inspired to make a gallery of faces 🎨
Thanks Laura! No, these were randomly created over several years, often inspired by the medium I was using, appearing through playful intuition. I have always loved drawing faces.
What delightfully playful crew you got there!
Amazing who shows up…
I’m loving these faces! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed Sharon!
