Well, this summer has been quite a jumble
Every day there’s more reason to grumble
Lists of things that need doing
Most of which I’m eschewing
S’pose my failing attempts keep me humble.
Shall I mention appointments with docs?
Quite a few, but no terrible shocks
As my body gets older
Seems the parts start to molder
But cronehood still mostly just rocks.
Yet the current regime keeps on stumbling
So a lot of my day I am mumbling
Their actions are bonkers
Seems stupidity conquers
But I think even they know they’re crumbling.
This year’s weather created lush green
Lavish growth, a real jungly scene
Whence one night did arise
Ooh! Twinkling fireflies!
Such a wonder not frequently seen.
But the season’s been dangerously hot
Sapping much of the pep that I’ve got
When too steamy to play
Even clear days feel gray
And my usual flow is a knot
So I seem to have written this ditty
Please excuse that it’s not very witty
But I had a good time
Trying to wrestle a rhyme
Makes me smile even if it is not so good.

Your poem cut through the smoke filled skies this morning and made me smile with recognition of the “jumble.” Beautifully done.

You nailed it! It has felt off this summer, wanting to smile but not always finding a place for it. It felt like nothing I could put my finger on, but your words spoke loud and clear. Thanks, I feel a little more at ease!
